Ida Maria – Fy Faen (Oh Shit).

Hi guys. 🙂

TOday I have a song for you sung by a fellow synaesthete. Ida Maria sees music in colours, or so says English Wikipedia, and one of the interviews with her. I think that’s pretty cool. Ida Maria is from Norway, she actually makes kinda punk music, but this song is a bit different. It is a cover of a song made by Hkeem, it’s title is “Fy Faen”, which you can translate as oh shit or oh damn, damn it, oh hell, anythig you fancy, faen is quite a flexible word I believe. The Scandinavian have a lot of hell-related words and this is one of them, I don’t know actually whether faen means devil or hell, but something like this. I’ve found the lyrics to this song, so I post them below.

   Because we live to die
Until we melt away like snow
And they are looking for mistakes
But I flip my fingers
To make my way
When everybody asks you to stop
Forget it and focus and work
Because jealousy, it burns
Though many bridges gotta burn
So not all are friends
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
They are all snakes, so it is totally normal
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
Nobody here has time for an unsuccessful day
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
These days everybody is giving me headache
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
This is the message through my song
This is the message through my song
This is the message through my song
Some talk a lot
A lot behind my back
Talk a lot on the phone
Still on it and they squander their life
A change has to happen
Know it’s a cliché
This is not a movie
So sit down and listen while I do my thing
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
Many of my boys have started to hustle these days
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
Snakes come and go like a boomerang
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
Gonna show everyone, because I have a plan
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
This is the message through my song
This is the message through my song
This is the message through my song
I will show my enemies
While they’re partying and drinking hennessy
I have only day ones, no frenemies
Working 24/7, you know we’re balling
Making the music they play when we score
Gonna shoot the golden bird, you know it’s over
Too slow out, know that you sleep
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
Many of my boys have started to hustle these days
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
Nobody here has time for an unsuccessful day
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
Gonna show everyone, because I have a plan
Oh shit, oh, oh shit
This is the message through my song
This is the message through my song
This is the message through my song

Music Monday Care & Love – song of the day (23rd July) – Hilde SelvikvÃ¥g – Allt For Deg (All For You).

Hi guys! 🙂

I’m so happy to participate in Music Monday Care & Love (formerly Music Monday Blog Party), hosted by the Bee at The Bee Writes.

Music Monday Love & Care is all about appreciating yourself, caring for yourself, celebrating your life and loving yourself more, all the while sharing music we love and that helps us with doing it all.

I think most of us would benefit from being more caring and loving for ourselves, so if you think it’s you too, I really encourage you to take part in it as well, and do some special self-care activity to be better for yourself, and do listen to some good music meanwhile, it really helps in boosting your self-esteem.

The activity that Bee is suggesting for us this week is to “just sit and do nothing”.

An extremely hard thing for me to do, I must admit. 😀 I’m not like hyperactive or anything, but my brain certainly is, and I don’t like, or am not used to, doing nothing for a long time, when I read it in the Bee’s post I actually wondered for a while whether I’m capable to do so. 😀 I don’t like feeling bored, and my brain is constantly overthinking, analysing and stuff. So, here’s the challenge for me!

This week (excluding Monday because it was just to busy), every day I’m going to sit still doing nothing – maybe besides listening to some not very brain-engaging music – for like 5 minutes, or more if I can. Just switch my brain off and exist. 5 minutes isn’t long, but that’s always something for a start, and, who knows, maybe until Sunday I’ll be able to increase it? Maybe to 10 minutes? That would be cool, wouldn’t it?

I was always kinda jealous, but also kinda surprised seeing people who don’t have any issues with doing nothing. Like on the beach – you see lots of people just lying, sunbathing, and doing nothing else. I was often thinking that if I’d do it for longer… I don’t know what would really happen, but the thought of it just scared me! And no, I am not any sort of workaholic or anything, it just seemed, and still seems in a way, kinda odd to me to do just nothing. My Mum is a master at it, so I’m gonna take an example from her. She is a very productive person, but she seems to be an expert at herself and her own needs and always knows exactly when to stop.

Because of these issues I have, it’s also often hard for me to pray or meditate, and I often find it disheartening, I need to be really determined if I really want to do such things right and succeed. Not because I can’t focus my attention on what I need to do, but because at the same time I focus my attention on a thousand of other big and little things, and then any prayer or meditation just can’t go right, you need to immerse your whole mind in it.

But, yeah, today I tried, for 5 minutes, 5 and a half almost, Misha was with me and Misha was the only thing I tried to focus on. We just lied together and I felt his fur, his slightest movements, listened to his breath, the gurglings in his tummy, felt his smell… We do it very often with Misha, just lie together, but usually at the same time my thoughts are racing like crazy, and today I did my best to stop them. It went surprisingly well. It was hard, but not as tough as I thought it could be. I think the weather we have now here helps people greatly in just existing, it’s really hot and it always makes me feel kinda sluggish, so it’s easier to do such things.

So I think I have the reason to be quite proud of myself, that’s always something. and also yesterday evening I ended up with sky high levels of anxiety and was feeling very low because of something that sort of triggered me, I was feeling better in the morning, but still rather not stable, and I feel like switching off my brain and turning my attention only to Misha helped me to feel more stable and grounded, which is really good.

So, I’m curious how it’ll go for the rest of the week, and if you can relate in any way to what I wrote, I would recommend you to try doing it too, I’m curious about how and if it will help you.

OK, so let’s go to the song. As you could notice I didn’t post anything yesterday, including song of the day, so it’ll be the song I planned for yesterday, in Norwegian.

It is a Norwegian version of John Legend’s song “All Of Me”, (Allt for Deg in Norwegian so actually All For You), sung by Hilde SelvikvÃ¥g. I really like it, and Iäm curious if you will too, and which version you prefer, the original, or this one. Enjoy. 🙂

Hidden Citizens – Somebody’s Watching Me.

Hi. 🙂

I thought I’d share another really cool cover with you, though in a COMPLETELY different style than the last one.

Do you ever feel like somebody’s watching you?

I do, very often. Not always, luckily, but very, very often. It has to do with my “silence anxiety”, as I call it, which means that, among other things, when I am alone and there is complete silence around me, I have often this horrifying impression just as if somebody was watching me. Also I am obsessed about my privacy i some cases, even if I’m not doing anything that very private, and I also think I might be somewhat “traumatised” by Zofijka, who loves to make me surprises like that I come into my room, do things and after 15 minutes I realise she’s hiding under the curtain or something. 😀 Can be funny, but also often pissing off and unsettling, however despite me telling her how it’s often annoying and just not OK if she does it, I guess she doesn’t fully get it. Also I guess I’m just similar to my Dad who is kinda paranoid. So yeah, I do often feel this way.

If you do too, I think you’re gonna like this song.

It is a cover of that famous 80’s hit by Rockwell, made by Hidden Citizens. As much as the original version doesn’t have the climate at all, the Hidden Citizens version is really powerful and graphic. You can really feel what’s it about, in opposite to the original in my opinion. I really could use the Hidden Citizens version as a sort of soundtrack to some parts of my life. 😀 It’s impressive!

High15 – Whole Again.

Hi guys. 🙂

Today I want to share a cover with you. High15 are a young girlsband from Sweden and they mainly make covers of pop songs. They became famous through Talang (so like Swedish version of Britain’s Got Talent). They are all born in 2002 or 2003. Currently there are for girls in the band. They are all close friends and they met on the camp for young artists, they’re from different parts of Sweden, plus one of them – Lleucu – is from Finland, but they meet regularly to write and record new music.

The song I want to show you was originally performed by Atomic Kitten, and is called “Whole Again”. I must say I like how they cover various songs, they do it with such passion and it’s really nice to listen to them.

Amason – I Want To Know What Love Is.

We have Father’s Day today. And I thought we need a special song in this mishmashy world to celebrate it. And actually I had quite a dilemma what to pick. Thought about something from Vreeswijk’s repertoire about his relationship with his son, I couldn’t think about any song in all my extensive music collection that would talk about fathers, fatherhood, at least not in the way that I could relate to. Also, my Dad’s music tastes are COMPLETELY different than mine so while me and my Mum can have some common favourite songs or even artists, it’s definitely not possible with Dad. And the purpose of My Inner MishMash is to share with the world things that I enjoy, or that move me in any other way, so there was no way I could share my Dad’s favourite piece. But then I realised there is that song, but, um, how were they called… The F… yeah! The Foreigners! and my Dad likes that song they’ve made, that was such a hit – “I Want To Know What Love Is”. I will forever associate it with him. He says it’s his favourite song. I am not big on the original, for me it’s nothing particular, like it’s not bad, but nothing I could really like.

But, the Swedish band called Amason, have made a cover of this song. And it is beautiful. In fact, I like it enough that I put it into my Swedish playlist on Spotify with my most favourite Swedish songs. I think what makes it so good in their version is the vocalist – Amanda Bergman’s – voice. I really like it. I like how a bit husky and dark it is, but also that she has quite a wide vocal range. So this is my choice for Father’s Day. A sort of compromise between our tastes! And because I listen to this song quite a lot, I often have my Swedish playlist turned on silently at night, my Dad has heard this song a few times before. He says it’s not as good as The Foreigners’, but it’s cool, as for a cover.

Music Monday Blog Party – Emmelie De Forest – Hunting High And Low.

Hey guys! 🙂

Time for another Music Monday Blog Party

at the Bee’s and celebrating our lives and achievements.

Today is still pretty hot here, we haven’t had any rains or storms during the weekend, but at least it’s a bit more windy so you don’t feel the heat so badly. Today I’m celebrating my life with Misha, who is very sleepy and lethargic. I’m sipping ice coffee which is very yummy and very cold. I love ice coffee. Zofijka has made a sponge cake with jelly and whipped cream and strawberries before school, she had school pretty late today, and we all had a piece of it, it is so yummy. I love when Zofijka bakes something. It always tastes so zoficiously.

As for the piece of music, I have two for you today. It’s because it’s often so hard for me to decide, which version of the song I like more. And there are two versions of the same song I really like and would like to show you both. And I’m curious which one do you like more. Also it is a cover, so I’m curious whether you prefer the classic, original version, or this girl’s.

Emmelie De Forest is half Danish, half Swedish, and the song I want to show you comes from her newest album which came out this year. She took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 2013, representing Denmark with the song “Only Teardrops”. The song I want to show you is “Hunting High And Low” originally performed by A-ha. I am not crazy about the original version, it’s pretty popular, often on the radio, and such songs rarely are my favourites, but it has an interesting harmony so I can say I quite like it, but Emmelie’s version is just great.

The first one is from her Youtube channel and the next one is from the album.

Jasmine Thompson – Lonely Together.

Hi people! 🙂

Thought I’d put one more acoustic cover today, but this time from Jasmine Thompson, who is also known for her acoustic covers of trending songs and she also started with her own Youtube channel and singing on there, just as Madilyn Bailey, whom I showed you yesterday. Jasmine is ENglish-Chinese, and lives in London. I really like her voice.

The song I want to show you is originally performed by Avicii and Rita Ora – thought that would be a good choice because of Avicii’s passing away recently – and is called “Lonely Together”.

Madilyn Bailey – No Tears Left To Cry.

Hi guys! 🙂

As long as this blog exists, I’ve showed you a few of my favourite mainstream acoustic songs or or acoustic covers of some mainstream songs, including Julia Sheer’s or Gabrielle Aplin’s. Thought I’d share with you another cover, this time made by the American singer and Youtube celebrity, based in Wisconsin, Madilyn Bailey.

The original song, sung by Ariana Grande, doesn’t really speak to me that much, but I like Madilyn’s version a lot. The song title is “No Tears Left To Cry”.

Gwilym Bowen Rhys – Yr Hogyn Pren (The wooden boy).

Hi guys! 🙂

About a week ago, i was very thrilled to see on Twitter that my current music crush – Gwilym Bowen Rhys – is collaborating on a new album with various other artists. The album is called “Rhwng Môr A Mynydd” (Between sea and mountain), was produced by the most or at least one of the most significant Welsh language music labels Sain Records, and released on 6th April. After having crushes like Enya – who works on her albums very surely and diligently, but also very slowly – Declan Galbraith – who at the time when my crush on him was full-blown suspended his career for quite a few years – and Cornelis Vreeswijk –
who (although very creative and artistically fertile) has passed away years before my birth – it is nice to have a crush on someone this active and hearing something new from him even more than yearly. It is really thrilling. Needless to say I bought the album almost immediately and, although there were only two Gwil’s songs – carved out an hour from my recently very busy schedule to review the album just for myself. There were good, better and worse pieces (I’ve known most of them before, ha! 😀 ), but overall I enjoyed it a lot, even just because of Gwilym’s part, if not anything else.

As for Gwilym’s songs, I’ve also heard them before, but in different arrangements. A year ago (on my birthday, yay!) he played them in Lisa Gwilym’s programme on BBC Radio Cymru, with his friend Gethin Griffiths, it sounded so good and I was silently hoping to see them released.

The song I want to show you is called “Yr Hogyn Pren” and (I guess) originally made by Tebod Piws. While I’m not crazy about neither Tebod Piws’ music nor his version of this song, I really do like Gwilym’s.

I’ve showed you a few songs by him already – his own, and with his rock band Y Bandana, and with more psychedelic Plu and Bendith – so if you’ve seen them you can see he’s very versatile (all my crushes are!). And what I like the most about his music… well, I don’t know whether it’s what I like the most, there’s so much to like about it, but one thing I like a lot about his music is how rich his possibilities and musical interests are. You can hear him in lovely, gentle, sophisticated folk tunes, like from his own album, then you can hear the band Plu of which he’s one of the members – with their music balancing somewhere between the worlds – then the band Y Bandana – with their cheeky, catchy songs and Gwilym’s rockish vocals, and then in tunes like this – kind of fierce, mischievous folk. That’s a huge diversity, innit?

I’ll show you Gwilym’s second song from this album later on, it’s more of the sophisticated/lyrical kind. Another artist that caught my attention immediately and that I’ve NEVER heard about before listening to this album is Magi Tudur, and I’ll be also showing you her music some time in future, as it is definitely worth exposing.

Because the album isn’t available online, or at least not yet, I’ll put it in Dropbox and remove after a month.

Alys Williams – Glory Box.

Hi all! 🙂

I decided I just need to show you another song by this fabulous girl. Remember her from my previous posts? I showed you guys her singing a song in Welsh with the rock band Candelas and then also her blind auditio on “The Voice”. I just think she’s so brilliant.

Here’s the cover of the song “Glory Box” by Portishead she did. I love it!

Gwilym Bowen Rhys & Cpt. Smith – “Merched Yn Neud Gwallt Eu Gilydd” (Girls doing each other’s hair).

Hi! 🙂

I’d like to continue this Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci for one more day if you don’t mind, but this time it’ll be a cover, or actually, as it is written in the description of the Youtube video with it “a new version” of Gorky’s song.

It’s brilliant, made by my current musical crush – Gwilym Bowen Rhys – and Cpt. Smith. I love it. And I love the original version too, it’s a complete masterpiece, but, since Gwilym’s my crush and he has covered it, I thought I should be loyal and share his version. 😀

Song of the day (10th March) – Dolores Keane- Let it be.

Hi! 🙂

Decided to share more of Dolores Keane’s music in the few days.

Today’s song is brilliant. As you maybe have guessed it’s a cover of The Beatles’ song “let It Be” and honestly if I had to choose which version I like more – Beatles’ or hers – I would have a big big dilemma since I love them both so much. e

Song of the day – Alys Williams – The Cave.

Hi!

I’ve showed you Alys’ great voice sometime ago in song she sang with the band Candelas in Welsh. This time I want to show you her stunning solo performance, and in ENglish. Alys became more famous while singing in “The Voice UK”. I am actually rather surprised she didn’t win in her edition as in my honest opinion she was just the best. Now, a few years afterwards, she is fairly active on the Welsh language music scene, featuring different artists, but I’m waiting excitedly to maybe see some releases from her in future. Also, for me, her accent is almost if not equally mesmerising and fabulous as her voice.

The song I’m sharing is the song she sang during blind auditions, “The Cave”, originally performed by Mumford And Sons. Btw, didn’t she break the time record as for making the decision whom to choose as her coach? 😀 It’s so much like me. 😀

Song of the day – Julia Sheer – Call It What YOu want.

Hi! 🙂

Today’s song will be a bit different, I suppose. I don’t know why, but many people that know me quite a bit, tend to think I listen to some very very niche music and then they’re always surprised when they realise I like people like Ellie Goulding or Black Eyed Peas or any other that are or were in the top charts recently. In fact, I really appreciate so called niche music, I listen to a lot of alternative stuff, I suppose folk is also kind of niche thing, or sometimes I listen to very hard rock, plus I think what makes people think my favourite music is kind of  more avant-garde or however they call it, is that a lot of my favourite music is in a bit niche  languages.

But it absolutely doesn’t mean that I don’t like any music that is very popular everywhere. Most often I don’t care about it, but I have some artists or songs that are commonly liked and I like them too, the fact that they are so popular doesn’t instantly make their quality lower or something, there are pretty many great songs that are mainstream, not everything mainstream is rubbish. The more that the idea of mainstream is very flexible. Things that are mainstream in Sweden, for instance, don’t have to be popular over here and people may not know it at all because of language barrier, and vice versa.

OK, but let’s go on to the song.

So today’s song of the day is originally a Taylor Swift’s song. While I’m pretty indifferent about Taylor Swift, I really like the girl who made this cover.

Her name is Julia Sheer, she’s from Colorado and she became famous through her Youtube channel. She mainly does acoustic covers of popular songs and I like most of them. She’s not my very very very favourite artist, but I think she has something very expressive in her voice and is just definitely cool.

I found her through my friend when I was in secondary and we both had a crush on mentioned here some time ago Declan Galbraith and she was also a bit obsessed with children and teenagers covering famous songs and liked to make new discoveries in that area, so Julia Sheer was one of those discoveries and she showed her songs to me and I thought immediately she’s really good. And I still think so.

So here she is:
