Question of the day.

What was the thing that first motivated you to start blogging?

My answer:

Well I had my first blog when I was… 13, 14 maybe, I don’t know if there was any special motive, like a very big one. I had just joined a sort of online network for the blind and you could blog very easily on there. I read some of other people’s blogs just to get an idea what a blog actually is, and I simply thought “Wow, that’s a cool thing, I’m gonna try this”. It was an easy decision because I always loved writing and was good at it. So it just sort of felt right, and was easy enough to do, you didn’t have to care about any technical stuff there like, I don’t know, a theme or anything, and there wasn’t much chance that you’ll get a lot of readership from outside the network unless you’d just give out your address to people, you just clicked “Create a blog” and it was there, so I didn’t really have to think much, it wasn’t like a very serious decision, though since then I’ve almost always had some sort of a blog.

So how about you? 🙂

  1. Oh oh oh, I LOVE this question. I started a mental health blog cos when the donor was around he made fun of me for my normal blog and said no one wanted to hear me whine about my mental issues.
9 years later, 1000 plus followers, and I am still blogging. He motivated me but good.

    1. Wow 9 years! That’s really impressive! But it’s really so cool to have your own space where you can be yourself, and can let show all of you that is not normal according to most normal boring people’s standards. That’s what I really like about blogging. 🙂 Good for you that you took his words in your stride. 🙂

      1. Oh what a polite way to say “you were motivated by sheer spite’, lol. Spite and the love of writing were a winning combo, though, this is my safe, sane space.

  2. Huh. I can’t remember what got me into it!! Probably it was back when I needed more of an outlet for difficult emotions!! Interesting question!! I’m glad you blog! Your blog is fun!

    1. Thanks so much! 🙂 I’m really happy I blog too, and that I blog here now, and that I blog in English and can be so expressive on my blog. 😀 Blogging can be a really great emotional outlet. 🙂

  3. So throughout the 1990s I was reading computer magazines [Macworld; Computer Living; NetGuide; MacUser; Desktop-something; Your Commodore User] and newspapers with IT sections.

June 1995 I made my first blog-like thing in Windows Notepad which was being emulated in SoftPC from a Power Mac. This is my memoir All in magnifique taste which continued through July 1995. In August I wrote another memoir called Between two cultures.

Can definitely identify with Morgue and spite – or at least anger/passion in writing, especially public writing.

It wasn’t until June 2001 that I found LiveJournal and that was because of a fandom connection – Kielle and Subreality. Kielle is dead now. I stopped LiveJournaling in May 2002.

Friends did lots of LiveJournalling from 2001-05.

In February/March 2006 I made several starts with blogs. You can find them at Dupont Humanite and Halfway up Rysy Peak. Dupont Humanite stopped in May 2006.

I used these blogs to promote my personal and professional life especially when it came to books and theatre and drama [the title of Halfway up Rysy Peak in fact comes from one of my dramas]. And psychology and international studies.

And yay for not caring about technical stuff like themes, Emilia! I wish I cared less.

Like you I gave my journal/blog to people within online communities, especially fandom [several different fandoms].

    1. That sounds like you’ve had a very dynamic and interesting history of writing and blogging, and in so different fields. 🙂 Yes exactly, that was really cool back then that I didn’t have to care about technical stuff, when I first started with WordPress (with my Polish blog) setting up everything by myself was quite an overwhelming surprise for me that I had to get used to. 😀

  4. 🙂 Oh, it all started when I saw a blog on Blogger many years ago and I said to myself, “I can do that!”

My first blog was on Blogger (It was a whole lot of fun while it lasted).

Today, I am on WordPress and I am proud to admit that I am way better than when I first started blogging.

Do enjoy the rest of your day
