I would like to show you a couple of songs by a very popular Persian-Swedish singer, she’s absolutely incredibly popular in Sweden, I can see it because almost everyone there seems to know her and she’s on the radio a lot, and she seems to be really liked. Despite her popularity, I like her a lot too, and lots of her songs are among my favourites. This song though has a bit of a special meaning to me, a bit like a sentiment maybe, because this was the first song ever that I translated from Swedish to Polish. And also this was the first song of Laleh that I’ve heard. I like it also because it’s full of truly Swedish idealism in my opinion, which makes it lovely. 🙂 Laleh, actually Laleh Pourkarim, was born in Iran, and she was living in quite a few different countries as a child, including Azerbaijan and Belarus, until her family finally settled in Sweden. So she speaks perfect Swedish and her songs are really good to learn Swedish from, I think. Another thing I like about Laleh is that she apparently also loves Cornelis Vreeswijk’s music, I once read somewhere that she likes to joke that he is her dad, and that she has a lot of feelings for him. He’s also a strong inspiration in her Swedish language music, which is very visible in some of her songs, the style is very much like Cornelis’. Oh and speaking about Cornelis Vreeswijk, in one of my posts I mentioned that he was able to teach himself Swedish as a 12-year-old and go to a normal Swedish school a year after he moved to Sweden with his family, but Laleh is even better at that! Apparently, she managed to learn Swedish in 11 days. That sounds impressive, doesn’t it?
