Enya – The Song Of The Sandman.

Hi guys! πŸ™‚

Is there anyone who likes Enya here? First of all, let me know, because I’m curious, she’s one of my music crushes, so I love anyone who loves her. πŸ˜€ Second of all, let’s wish her happy birthday today. It’s her 57th birthday. Don’t know if she looks old enough, but she certainly doesn’t sound or seem. The time flies definitely too fast.

I love all her songs (well apart from “Orinoco Flow”, unfortunately I’ve got bad associations with it and no matter how I try, it seems like I can’t like it, and there’s something in the harmonies that always keeps me away from it), so I had a hard time deciding on something for today. And I decided for a lullaby. I don’t know what the time is where you are, but you can always listen to it again before sleep if you like it, and I think there’s nothing wrong in listening to lullabies when the sun is rising, or before, or in the middle of the day. Maybe that’s why my sleep cycle is so crazy… That’s an interesting thing to think about.

As much as I love lullabies, this one is very special to me, not only because it’s by Enya, whom I considered my second Mummy when I was in my early teens, but also because it’s the song of the Sandman. I love The Sandman. It’s such an inspiring character. I wish he existed. And as often with ENya’s music, this song moves me very deeply, making me very joyful and excited but also deeply sad at the same time. I’m curious what are your feelings about it.

    1. Yeah I know what you mean, lots of people think it’s her, but it’s Lisa Gerrard who did vocals to it, and I believe Zimmer composed it. People often confuse Enya with Lisa Gerrard, or with Miriam Stockley from Adiemus, or other kinda new age people. I do like the “Gladiator” soundtrack too, but I absolutely love Enya and her music and it’s great you do too. πŸ™‚

    2. Yeah it’s Miriam Stockley I also thought for years it’s ENya! Apparently she – Stockley – is very good at faking some other famous artists and although I don’t know whether she did it on purpose here, she sounds a little bit like Enya indeed.

    1. I love it about Enya that she lives in the castle, full of cats, and I love the fact that she called it Manderley as in Daphne Dumaurier’s “Rebecca”, this is a fabulous book. These are just a few things why I think Enya must be a fabulous person. Wow that’s so great you had an opportunity to drive by her castle, and tour Ireland in general. πŸ™‚

      1. Beautiful name, Manderley, right? It beckons for a dreamy tale. Oh, I fell in love with Ireland. I cried when I left. Oh yes, Ireland is a dream. To stand at the spot the Titanic was built, in The Hogwart library ( Trinity college), Game of Thrones, Winterfel at castle ward, a cathedral where Columbus attended 2 years before setting sail…and went by Dolores O’Riordan’s home ( the cranberries) Oh a dream i long to dream again!

    2. Yes, this is a really beautiful and kinda dreamy name for a castle. I also love Ireland, although I’ve never been there, there’s so much beautiful and interesting things about Ireland that it’s really easy to love, and I’d love to travel there sometime.
